ISLAMABAD: Romina Khursheed Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, on Monday expressed the intention to establish the first-ever center of excellence for climate change in Pakistan.
The Centre would be for the welfare of wildlife wherein transfer of veterinary technology, veterinary training, and awareness for the public would be provided by senior wildlife scientists for the betterment of ecology, niche, growth and experimentation of wildlife.
Romina Khursheed Alam held a meeting with Islamabad Wildlife Management Board along with experts from Four Paws at the Ministry of Climate Change, a press release said.
She was apprised on management, preservation of wildlife, problems and challenges about Margalla Hills National Park and Marghazar Zoo.
Dr. Frank Goeritz, Head of the Institute of Zoo and Wildlife Research and Dr. Amir Khalil, Director of Reveal and Rescue briefed the coordinator on endangered species and bio-rescue.
PM’s Aid on Climate Change Emphasizes Setting up New Park
Romina Khursheed Alam emphasized setting up a new park dedicated to rare, endangered, and vulnerable species. For this purpose, twenty-eight acres of land, under the ministry would be utilized.
While discussing the issues of natural life in Pakistan, Romina Khursheed said that she was persuing for the earliest signing of the Islamabad Nature & Wildlife Management Act 2023 after which steps for bio rescue and wildlife would be upscaled.
