ISLAMABAD: Asad Umar, the Central Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of attempting to find unconstitutional ways to avoid the upcoming polls.

In a statement on Saturday, Umar said that the PML-N was targeting the superior judiciary to build pressure on the Supreme Court (SC) to find any unconstitutional way to defer the elections, which are required to be held within 90 days.

Umar revealed that the PML-N leaders were scared of the elections, which are constitutionally mandated to be held within a given timeframe.

He added that they were making noise and shouting to avoid the political death that awaited them. The PML-N has threatened not to accept the supreme court’s decision until the formation of the full court.

Asad Umar accuses PML-N of revolt against constitution

Umar also accused the PML-N of threatening to revolt against the constitution, saying that they had no legal or constitutional justification to avoid the polls, hence dubbed these judges, who were part of this bench, as biased.

He reminded that the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial, also took suo moto notice of the case that sent the Imran Khan-led PTI government home. He said that out of the five-member bench that invalidated the ruling of former Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, three judges were part of the current bench i.e., Umar Ata Bandial, Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, and Muneeb Akhtar.

Umar criticized the current government, saying that the country is experiencing a complete breakdown of law, with rampant abductions of citizens happening on a daily basis, even in major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta.

The PTI Central Secretary General urged the government to hold the elections within the stipulated timeframe and accept the decision of the court.

The PML-N has yet to respond to these allegations.
