PML-N, JUI, PPP Agree on Judicial Reforms

LAHORE: A consensus has been made between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) regarding judicial reforms as the top leadership of the political parties met at Jati Umra, the residence of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.

According to local media reports, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior members of the three political parties attended the meeting.  Local media reported that a consensus was reached on the reforms.

As per media reports, Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier met senior party leaders. The PML-N leaders then held talks with Maulana Fazl for over an hour. A meeting also took place between Maulana Fazl and Nawaz Sharif and the senior leadership of both parties attended the meeting.

Local media reported that the three parties have agreed on a joint draft, which is likely to be presented in the National Assembly and Senate sessions soon.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned separate sessions of the National Assembly and Senate on Thursday.  The Senate will meet at 03:00 pm and the National Assembly at 04:00 pm.

The president summoned the session of the National Assembly in exercise of the powers conferred by article 54(1) of the Constitution of the country, said a National Assembly secretariat.
