LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has expelled its longstanding leader and former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, citing continuous “violation of party discipline.”
PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal, in a statement, announced the termination of Mehtab Abbasi’s basic party membership, a decision made under the instructions of party president Shehbaz Sharif.
This move came just a day after Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, who also served as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and federal minister, declared his support for an independent candidate backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Abbottabad’s NA-17 constituency.
Simultaneously, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi is contesting the election as an independent candidate against the party candidate in the NA-16 constituency.
Mehtab Abbasi Parts with Party
Last December, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi had parted ways with the PML-N, expressing concerns about the provincial leadership.
He mentioned having differences with Nawaz Sharif on principles but clarified that he had no issues with Maryam Nawaz. Abbasi criticized the party’s internal democracy and alleged a lack of cohesive leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
