PMD Predicts More Rains with Winds and Thunderstorm Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD), Monday predicted more rain-wind and thunderstorms with heavy falls during the week.

According to Met Office, another strong westerly wave is likely to enter North Western side of the country from March 21 and likely to hit most parts of the country on March 22.

The office further informed that under the influence of this weather system, widespread rain-wind along with thunderstorms with isolated heavy showers is expected in various parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Sibbi, Khuzdar, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, Barkhan, Harnai, Chaman, Qilla Saifullah, Qillah Abdullah, Pishin, Dalbandin, Nokkundi, Panjgur, Kalat, Lasbella, Gwadar, and Makran coast from 21st (evening/night) to March 24.

Rain, wind, and thunderstorm in KP

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, widespread rain-wind and thundershower with scattered heavy showers and isolated hailstorm is expected in Chitral, Dir (Upper and Lower), Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Kohistan,  Buner, Haripur, Peshawar, Kohat, Karak, Charsada, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan (North and South), Mohmand District, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan from 21st to 24th March.

In Kashmir, widespread rain-wind, a thunderstorm with scattered heavy showers and hailstorms are expected in different areas of  Kashmir, including Neelum valley, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Mirpur and Bhimber while in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), isolated Rain-wind and thunderstorm is expected at Ghizer, Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Shigar and Ghanche from 21st to 24th March.

Rain, Wind, and Thunderstorms in Punjab

In Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad, widespread rain-wind and thundershower with scattered heavy showers and isolated hailstorm is expected in Murree, Galliyat, twin cities, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Khushab, Nankana Sahib, Mianwali, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Multan, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar khan, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Kasur and Okara from 21st to 24th March.

Prediction for Sindh, Balochistan, GB and Kashmir

In Sindh province, a scattered rain-wind-dust thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm is expected in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Mithi, Sanghar, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Mirpurkhas and Karachi from 21st to 23rd March.

According to PMD, heavy rains may cause flash floods in Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Barkhan, Kalat, Musakhel, Khuzdar, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Kohlu, Sibbi, Zhob, Turbat, Awaran, Panjgur and some parts of D.G Khan on 22nd and 23rd March.

Meanwhile, landslides may occur in hilly areas of KP, GB, Kashmir, Murree and Galliyat during the forecast period, while the day temperature is possible to fall significantly during the spell.

Met Office also advised the tourists to remain more cautious during the forecast period while all concerned authorities are advised to remain alert to avoid any untoward situation during the mentioned period.
