ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rain, wind, and thundershowers in various regions of the country within the next 24 hours.
The areas include Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab, Pothohar region, Islamabad, eastern Balochistan, and upper Sindh.
During this forecast period, heavy rainfall is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Pothohar region, and eastern Balochistan. The weather system is influenced by monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea, which are continuously making their way into most parts of Pakistan. Additionally, a westerly wave is present over the upper parts of the country, further contributing to the expected weather conditions.
Residents in certain areas should be prepared for the possibility of flash flooding in local nullahs of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast and south Balochistan (including Quetta, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sherani, Harnai, Bolan, Loralai, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, and surrounding areas) during the next 24 hours.
Urban flooding is also a concern in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Kasur, and Faisalabad from July 27 to 28. Furthermore, the forecast indicates the possibility of landslides in vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the same period.
In the last 24 hours, several regions experienced rain, wind, and thundershowers, with heavy falls recorded in Sindh, northeastern Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
As weather conditions can change rapidly, it is essential for residents in the aforementioned regions to stay alert and follow any advisories or safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
