ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that the workers’ role is pivotal for the economic development of any country, and vowed to improve the living conditions of all sections of society, particularly workers in the country.
Shehbaz Sharif’s message on International Workers’ Day
In a message on International Workers’ Day, he said that the day reminds them of the sacrifices of the workers who laid down their lives while waging a struggle for their rights. He added on the day, “Let us all vow to play our part to ensure the welfare of working classes by investing in their socio-economic and social well-being”.
The PM paid rich tributes to the working classes and lauded their contributions to the development and progress of the country. The Prime Minister said that the day also symbolizes the dignity of labour and at the same time, it is an acknowledgement of the importance of workers for being central to the economic growth of Pakistan. He said, “Our great religion, Islam, emphasizes the principles of social justice, equity and respect for the rights of the people”. He maintained that Allah Almighty and the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) have ordered us to fulfil the rights of the labour and not be lax in the performance of this duty.
The Prime Minister said, “We find numerous inspiring examples of the dignity of labour and respect for the rights of the working classes in the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
He added on the same ground, they believed that workers and employers are partners in the production process and their cooperation and amicable relationship is essential for socio-economic development of Pakistan.
He claimed that the current Government is committed to improving the living conditions of workers in the country and to supplement their welfare by providing better education facilities, housing, and health cover for them and their families.
The PM said that keeping in view the high inflation rates and other economic challenges, the government has increased the minimum wages of workers from Rs. 17,500/- to 25,000/ per month.
He claimed that the present Government has also embarked upon programmes of training and skills development to enable workers and labours to get their due share in job markets within and outside the country.
