PM Shehbaz Sharif Summons Federal Cabinet Meeting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned a meeting of the federal cabinet on Sunday at 2 pm, local media reported on Saturday.

The meeting will highlight and discuss the legal matters, the situation and challenges after the Supreme Court verdict on the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Cabinet meeting to discuss important issues, bills

The federal cabinet will also validate the NSC (National Security Committee decisions in the said meeting.

It will also discuss President Arif Alvi’s move to reject the supreme court bill. The cabinet members would also find out ways to pass the bill by a joint session of the parliament.

Earlier today, President Arif Alvi sent back the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023 limiting the chief justice’s suo motu powers in an individual capacity.

President Alvi returned the bill for reconsideration to the parliament under the provisions of the Article 75 of the Constitution days after it was sent to the president for approval after it was sailed through the National Assembly and Senate amid noisy protests by the PTI legislators.

President Arif Alvi said that he considered it fit and sound to return the Bill, in accordance with the Constitution of the country, with the request for reconsideration to meet the scrutiny about its validity (if assailed in the Court of Law).
