ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: On World Polio Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to eradicating polio and ensuring a future without this preventable disease.

He credited the ongoing efforts of health workers and international partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, for significant progress in reducing polio cases across the country.

Despite these achievements, Sharif acknowledged the persistent challenges facing the polio eradication initiative. Security concerns in certain regions, misinformation about vaccination, and difficulties accessing remote areas continue to impede efforts. He emphasized the importance of uniting to raise awareness about polio and urged all stakeholders to recommit to this vital cause, which has historically affected millions of children.

The Prime Minister highlighted the bravery of health workers who continue to vaccinate children, even in the face of adversity. He noted that improvements in health infrastructure and increased vaccine coverage are crucial, alongside efforts to combat misinformation through the National Emergency Action Plan.

Shehbaz Sharif also stressed the significance of regional collaboration, particularly with Afghanistan, to control cross-border polio transmission. He urged parents to vaccinate their children and called on community leaders to advocate for polio eradication.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to becoming polio-free, emphasizing that the fight against polio is not just about the disease itself but about establishing a stronger public health system for future generations.
