ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stones of various development projects, including Tank Zam Dam, in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province on Monday.
Governor KP Haji Ghulam Ali, Ameer Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazal) Maulana Fazal Rehman and Advisor to the Prime Minister, Amir Muqam accompanied the Prime Minister on the occasion. The PM was briefed on the projects. He will also review ongoing rehabilitation work in flood-affected areas.
Dam to generate 17MW electricity, irrigate thousands of acres
Once built, the Tank Zam Dam will generate 17 megawatts of electricity as well as irrigate 163 thousand acres of land in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank. The dam will meet the electricity needs of Jandola and Tank District.
It should be noted that the ground-breaking of the dam was first performed by former President Pervez Musharraf in 2002. The work on the project was halted in 2005 after the abduction and murder of two Chinese engineers. Later the contract for the construction of the dam was awarded to the Frontier Works Organisation.
