ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to extend his stay in London so as to hold “consultations” with his elder brother and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on the political and national issues.

Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Tuesday that the prime minister is currently in London for an official visit to attend the coronation of King Charles III, which was held last week (Saturday). While taking to Twitter, Marriyum said that the visit had been extended on Nawaz Sharif’s advice and Prime Minister Shehbaz will now leave for Pakistan on Wednesday (tomorrow).

The premier had reached the UK last Wednesday to represent Pakistan at the coronation of King Charles III. In London, he met UK PM Rishi Sunak and Pakistani-origin Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf on the sidelines of his London visit.

The visit was criticised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, who termed it a “waste of nation’s money”.

Pakistan has been reeling from an ever-increasing political crisis as the incumbent PDM government and the opposition PTI stay at odds over the issue of holding elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Despite the top court’s orders, the two sides have not yet made any progress in the ongoing dialogue of election date.

Last Friday, premier Shehbaz said that all the institutions of the country need to perform their constitutional duties while staying within their ambit of power, and that “double standards” are harmful to any society. Talking to the media outside Avenfield apartments in London, the prime minister said that the “double standards” on part of the judiciary had harmed Pakistan in an irreparable manner and the only way forward is equality of justice. The PM further said that such trends by the courts having “likes and dislikes” are harmful to the country.
