PM Shehbaz Directs to Devise Framework for Olympic Village in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to devise a corporate framework for the development of an Olympic Village in the federal capital Islamabad.

The premier chaired a high-level meeting on the establishment of a world-class Olympic Village in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Highlighting the importance of the project, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that a significant portion of the country’s population comprised of youth and engaging them in constructive activities through sports, allowing them to channel their energies positively.

In reflection of the government’s commitment to sports advancement, the Prime Minister recounted historic initiatives undertaken by his government to promote sports within the country. He pointed out the launch of a national sports programme and the foundation laying of the inaugural sports university in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said that Olympic Village is a national project, urging the development of a corporate structure for the project. He directed that relevant experts should be closely involved in overseeing the construction process.

Facilities in Olympic Village

The participants were informed that the Olympic Village will spread over 1200 kanals of land at the base of Margalla Hills. This ambitious project will ensure top-tier facilities for various sports, including a cricket academy, an international cricket stadium, a hockey ground, a tennis complex, an athletics stadium, indoor sports facilities, an international hotel, and dedicated parking areas.

The meeting was informed that approximately Rs  billion rupees has been allocated for the construction of the state-of-the-art Olympic Village.

Prime Minister Sharif called for ensuring transparency throughout the construction of the facility.

The meeting was attended by former members of the National Assembly Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Hanif Abbasi, and Anjum Aqeel, along with the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority and other senior officials.
