ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the trip of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Pakistan underscores the shared commitment to prosperity, peace, and regional development.
In a statement via social media welcoming the Malaysian leader, he said he looks forward to fruitful talks with Malaysian Prime Minister on strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation.
PM Shehbaz Sharif called for collaborative efforts to build a brighter future for both Malaysia and Pakistan.
Earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday for a three-day official trip, marking an important moment for bilateral ties between the two countries.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation, Prime Minister Ibrahim was warmly welcomed by PM Shehbaz Sharif and was presented with a ceremonial 21-cannon salute upon his arrival in Islamabad.
The trip aims to strengthen relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, focusing on a wide-ranging agenda that includes talks on connectivity, trade, agriculture, energy, the halal food industry, cultural exchanges, tourism, and people-to-people contacts.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and other members of the federal cabinet were also present at the welcoming ceremony, where children in traditional attire presented flowers to the visiting dignitary.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, on Monday emphasized the historical and cultural bonds that unite the two nations. “This trip provides a significant opportunity to further strengthen Pakistan-Malaysia ties,” she said.
During his trip, Prime Minister Ibrahim is to meet with Prime Minister Sharif and other senior officials to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation. Recent discussions have emphasized the need for increased collaboration in areas such as defence, security, renewable energy, science and technology,and climate change.
