ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced a landmark “Roshan Economy Power Package” aimed at revitalizing Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors through subsidized electricity rates.
During a meeting with experts and representatives from the business community, the premier said that under the package — effective from November 2025 to October 2028 — additional electricity would be provided to factories and farmers at significantly reduced prices.
Industrial users will now receive extra units at Rs22.98 per kWh, compared to the current Rs34, while agricultural consumers will pay far less than the previous Rs38 per kWh, he said.
No Burden on Households or Other Sectors
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the discounted power supply would not affect household consumers or other sectors. He praised Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for designing a package that, he said, “strikes the right balance between economic stimulus and fiscal responsibility.”
The prime minister said the initiative would help make Pakistani industries and agriculture more competitive regionally, enhance business ease, and encourage sustained productivity across the value chain.
From Stability to Self-Reliance
Citing last winter’s energy package, which led to an additional 410 gigawatt hours of consumption and increased exports, the prime minister said the government’s economic recovery plan was bearing fruit. “It was a difficult journey from crisis to stability, but through teamwork and perseverance, we achieved it,” he said.
Sharif expressed confidence that sustained reforms and affordable energy would reduce Pakistan’s reliance on external borrowing. “With your cooperation and the tireless efforts of our economic team, we will achieve full economic sovereignty soon,” he said.
