ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday condemned the use of Afghanistan’s territory for terrorism against Pakistan, expressing grave concern over provocations by the Afghan Taliban and terrorist groups.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his statement, voiced serious concern over the provocations by the Afghan Taliban and the miscreants of “Fitna-e-Khawarij.”
Fitna-al-Khawarij is a term the state uses for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.
The Prime Minister commended the security forces for successfully repelling the Afghan Taliban’s attack in the Kurram Sector, noting that the Pakistan Army delivered a strong and effective response to the unprovoked aggression.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasising that the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan is utterly unacceptable and strongly condemned.
Pakistan’s security forces effectively countered cross-border incursions by the Afghan Taliban and Khawarij, demonstrating their readiness and resolve.
According to the Pakistan military’s media wing (ISPR), the Afghan Taliban and Khawarij launched coordinated attacks at four locations in Spin Boldak during the early hours of October 15. Pakistani forces effectively repelled all attempted incursions.
The assaults demonstrated a blatant disregard for civilian safety and the well-being of local communities. Additionally, the Afghan Taliban destroyed the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate on their side of the border—an act the ISPR described as indicative of a mindset hostile to mutual trade and tribal harmony.
In a swift retaliatory response, Pakistani forces eliminated 15 to 20 Taliban fighters and injured several others.
The ISPR further noted that intelligence reports suggest Taliban and Khawarij elements are regrouping at multiple staging points along the border.
