ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the National Export Development Boar wherein he assigned the officials concerned to take the nation’s annual exports to $60 billion within 3 years.
Shehbaz Sharif asked the commerce ministry and other relevant departments to take all essential steps to obtain the given target. The PM said that the nation’s exports crossed the $30 billion mark during the last fiscal year, and the government’s policies took the IT exports to more than $3.2 billion.
The PM asked the ministry to address the issues pointed out by the exporters and also present a report within two weeks. He stated that he would chair the National Export Development Board meeting every one-and-half month.
Calling for collective efforts for the nation’s development and progress, he paid tribute to the business community and investors for their role in boosting exports despite tough situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz also asked the commerce ministry to finalize the policy recommendations, in coordination with representatives of the export sectors.
Shehbaz Sharif also instructed for exporting of quality seeds as well as agricultural products following further processing and taking steps to introduce crop varieties with high yields.
The PM said that the delivery time of Pakistani goods to America and Europe should be decreased by solving the issues related to the shipping of exports immediately.
