PM Pledges to Drive Economic Stability, Growth

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed the pledge to bringing economic growth and stability in the South Asian country.  Chairing a meeting of cabinet in Islamabad today, the PM said that they have to provide productive jobs and cut expenditures, in addition to shrinking circular debt in gas and power fields.  Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need to advance in this direction with urgency.

He also highlighted the need to control and eliminate evasion and corruption in revenue process, as well as to end smuggling. The PM recognized that there is also commitment and seriousness towards this end, expressing the confidence that the nation will achieve its destination.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that the requirements and conditionalities of the IMF will be met on time and expressed confidence that its board will approve Pakistan’s loan program. He noted that they should remember this will be the last IMF program and emphasized that the nation will stand on its own feet.

The PM expressed satisfaction over gradual reduction in the inflation rate. Shehbaz Sharif said it came down to a single digit of 9.6 percent in the month of August, compared to 27 percent of the corresponding period previous year. Describing it as a very positive achievement, he lauded the finance ministry and other relevant ministries for their efforts in this connection.
