ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar chaired a high-level meeting to discuss strategies to reduce prices and ensure their positive impact on the public. The meeting discussed recent reductions in petroleum prices, anti-smuggling efforts, and measures to curb electricity theft.
He said that the price of petroleum products decreased by 1.7%, offering relief to the general public. Specifically, petrol and diesel prices saw reductions of 12.38% and 4.7%, respectively, providing much-needed financial respite to the masses.
He said that the robust exchange rate, combined with the lowered petroleum prices, translated into significant savings, amounting to a total of 41 billion rupees, for the general public.
Govt to Ensure Petroleum Price Drop Benefit to Masses
The premier said that the government is steadfastly working on the swift implementation of measures to ensure that these reductions benefit the common people without delay. He further said that efforts to control smuggling and crack down on electricity theft are already showing gains that will positively impact the public.
He told the meeting that at the national level, an intricate system has been established for the monitoring and decision-making processes regarding the pricing of essential goods. These essential items encompass agricultural produce, electricity, rent, and industrial goods.
The Prime Minister said that a state-of-the-art Decision Support System for Inflation, developed by the National Statistics Institute, is being utilized to monitor and facilitate informed decisions concerning inflation.
The provincial chief ministers, including Mohsin Naqvi, Justice (Retd) Makhdoom Baqar, and Azam Khan, along with the chief secretaries of all four provinces, attended the high-level meeting via video link.
