ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday asked the officials to remain vigilant against possible hacking attempts to obtain sensitive information.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a statement said security agencies have foiled an attempt to hack the mobile phones of senior government officials to get sensitive information.

It warned the involved elements, using the names of senior officials had tried to obtain sensitive information from bureaucracy and state officials.

WhatsApp links used to hack phones of senior government officials

The PM office stated that the hackers used some links on WhatsApp to enter into the phones of senior government officials.

It further said that the government has ordered all state officials to remain vigilant and do not respond to any such text messages.

The officials have also been asked to immediately inform Cabinet Division if such messages are received. “Pakistan’s security agencies are fully alert on the issue,” the PMO statement added.

Earlier in July, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had asked the interior ministry to hold a joint investigation into a data breach while expressing serious concerns over the data leak of citizens from the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
