ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister office has confirmed that it had received the summary consisting of six names in connection with the appointment of the next Army Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
The PM office confirmed it on Wednesday. It said the summary has been received from Defence Ministry containing six names for the appointment of the next army chief and the chairman joint chief of staff committee (CJCSC). It is to mention here that the premier will take a decision in this regard as per the laid down procedure.
Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted that the summary had been forwarded to the prime minister office from the ministry. The rest of the steps will be completed soon, he added. The tweet came hours after the military confirmed that it had dispatched the summary to the defence ministry.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had said that the GHQ has forwarded the summary for selection of the army chief and chairman joint chiefs of staff committee, containing names of 6 senior most Lieutenant Generals. The communique, however, did not mention which six names have been forwarded. A
In the meantime, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif continued consultations with his allies. A special meeting of the federal cabinet has also been scheduled for Thursday to discuss the appointments.
