PM Kakar Urges US Corporate Sector for More Investment in Pakistan

NEW YORK: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has said that the US corporate sector must look at ways and means to further enhance its very long and productive relationship with Pakistan.

Addressing a delegation of the United States Pakistan Business Council (USPBC) on the sidelines of annual session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Thursday evening, the prime minister said that attracting foreign investments in all fields of Pakistan’s economy was the top priority of the government as it was focused on creating a business-friendly environment and would welcome all suggestions.

The Prime Minister asserted that the government believed in a no-holds-barred foreign investment regime, and had established the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to facilitate foreign investors, boost their confidence and expedite project implementation in priority sectors of agriculture, IT, energy and minerals as well as mining.

Investment opportunities in Pakistan

He in particular identified agriculture, tech sector including pharmaceuticals, fintech, health, and digital banking fields where the US companies could enhance their investments in Pakistan.

President USPBC Esperanza Jelalian congratulated the prime minister on assuming office and assured that USPBC will continue to engage with Pakistan’s government to seek mutually beneficial ways of enhancing cooperation.

In their remarks, the USPBC members briefed the premier on their businesses in Pakistan and plans to enhance their presence in the Pakistani market.
