KARACHI: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Wednesday vowed to continue fight against terrorism “no matter what” adding surrender was not an option.

“Pakistan will not surrender to radicalism, extremism [and] intolerance… this is our home and we will govern the country on our terms,” he declared.

The caretaker prime minister’s statement comes a day after six soldiers were martyred during a gunfight with terrorists in the Asman Manza general area of South Waziristan district.

The army’s media wing said in a press release yesterday that the soldiers did engage the terrorists, killing four of them while two others were injured.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi Wednessday, Prime Minister Kakar said, “Those who have the misconception that we are tired of such attacks should know that we will never forget our martyrs and their sacrifices and will not refrain from such sacrifices in future.

“In fact, we will pursue them.

He pointed out that Pakistan was spending its own money, collected from taxes, on law enforcement agencies in the country. “We are not fighting for donations,” the prime minister said.

PM Kakar emphasized that all law enforcement personnel, whether fighting external aggression or playing their role for internal security, were honoured and respected by the entire nation.

“We pay them respect for their work. Money only fulfils their needs and we do… but the nation pays it through honour and respect.

“Suicide bombers… hellhounds… think that my soldiers sitting in Waziristan, Balochistan or any other corner of the country do not know what God has prepared for them,” he asked.

Prime Minister Kakar further stated that Pakistan has a clear message for those who spread violence: “We will continue to fight against the misguided.

He also appreciated the joint efforts of the army, civil administration and local people earlier in the day in the Battagram rescue operation which saved the lives of all the eight people stuck in the cable car.
