ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday directed to expedite work on the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other loss-making public enterprises.
Addressing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister stressed transparency in the privatization process.
The meeting was given a briefing on the different issues of PIA. It was attended by Caretaker Minister for Privatization Fawad Hassan Fawad, Adviser to PM Ahad Cheema, and other officials, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press note.
During the briefing, the prime minister expressed his concerns over the delayed decision-making regarding the issues of PIA. He stressed that expediting the privatization process of the national airline and other SOEs running into losses, adding that their losses could not be met with the public tax money.
He said that reforms in the aviation sector could bring better facilities to the people.

Transparency in Privatization Process Emphsized
He emphasized that transparency in the privations process should be ensured, adding fixing of responsibility for the losses was requisite to take necessary measures to avoid further losses.
The meeting was apprised of the progress on the financial situation of the national airline and its privatization process. All the hurdles in its privatization process were discussed.
The Caretaker Prime Minister said it was very important to determine those responsible for the losses being faced by the public enterprises so that remedial measures could be taken.
He said it was no longer possible to meet the deficit of these institutions from public taxes.
