ISLAMABAD: The process of the key appointments in the army entered its final stages on Tuesday when the Ministry of Defense sent a summary to the Prime Minister’s House for the final nod.
The summary included the names of six senior-most Lieutenant Generals in the army.
Lieutenant General Asim Munir’s name is on the top of the list, a local TV reported.
Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas, Lieutenant General Nouman Mahmood, Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed and Lieutenant General Muhammad Amir are also in the race.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will send two names to President Dr. Arif Alvi to fill the ranks of Army Chief and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), which is just a constitutional norm as the real authority rests with the prime minister himself.
The incumbent army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is set to retire on 29 November 2022.
