ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s leadership extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation on Thursday as Pakistan secured a record eighth term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif took to X to express his delight and congratulated the nation. “Proud moment as Pakistan receives a resounding 182 votes and is elected to the United Nations Security Council for the term 2025-26,” the prime minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
He said that Pakistan’s election with overwhelming support demonstrates the international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s diplomatic standing and commitment to global peace and security.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation on Pakistan’s election as a non-permanent member of the UNSC and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the vision of the UN Charter, which aims to prevent war, promote peace, foster global prosperity, and uphold universal respect for human rights.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to contribute effectively towards maintaining international peace and security in line with the UNSC’s mandate. He commended the excellent election campaign and teamwork by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Pakistan Mission to the UN, and all missions abroad.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for a period of two years after grabbing 182 out of 185 total votes cast by the UNGA members. Five countries abstained while three countries cast their vote against Pakistan in the voting.
