SAN MATEO: Sony has announced that its latest Spider-Man 2 game developed by PlayStation has become the fastest-selling video game, Western media reported on Wednesday.
The company in a blog post said that more than 2.5 million physical and digital copies of the game has been sold in first 24 hours of its release.
The game, developed by PlayStation has been widely acclaimed since it was released on Friday for the PS5.
Some have criticized the developers of the game over its long length as it takes around 15 hours to complete the game.
The game extends to 40 hours
The game extends to nearly 40 hours including side-content, a typical length for video games. Although some games like Baldur’s Gate 3 can be played for hundreds of hours.
Spider-Man 2 has been cheered for its representation of Puerto Rican culture, but there has been criticism after its flag was confused with Cuba. The developers have vowed to fix the mistake.
Though it is named Spider-Man 2, it is actually the third game in the series, following releases in 2018 and 2020.
Like the previous version the game takes place in a virtual New York City, but for the first time, players can choose either Peter Parker or Miles Morales as main players.
PlayStation’s head of business operations Eric has said that Insomniac Games have high standards when it comes to delivering innovative gameplay experiences. He thanked the fans for making the new game a success.
