ISLAMABAD: The Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Muhammad Sami Saeed on Thursday while reviewing progress on Special Economic Zones under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) directed the stakeholders to expedite the development process.
The Minister made directions while presiding over a meeting to review the implementation status of SEZs. The meeting was attended by Dr Nadeem Javaid, Chief Economist of Pakistan, Representatives from the Ministry of Commence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Board of Investment, and Chief Executive Officers CEOs of Provincial Zones.
The provincial representatives gave a briefing on the implementation status of SEZs which include Dhabeji Special Economic Zone; Allama Iqbal Industrial City; Rashakai Special Economic Zone, ICT Model Industrial Zone; Industrial Park on Pakistan Steel Mill Land; Bostan Special Economic Zone; Mirpur Industrial Zone; Mohmand Marble City and Moqpondass Special Economic Zone.
It is to be mentioned here that these SEZs aim to accelerate industrial development, benefit local communities and create job opportunities.
The Minister directed the stakeholders to expedite the work on SEZs while following the deadlines.
During the meeting, briefing was also given on the upcoming Belt and Road Forum.
Decade of CPEC
It is noted that the Year 2023 marks the Decade of CPEC and the strong partnership between Pakistan and China. Accordingly, both countries are celebrating ten years of BRI and CPEC from July 5, 2023.
Recently, the Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng visited Pakistan and attended a ceremony to mark ten years of the CPEC project.
