LAHORE: The health department officials in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore have reported 85 new cases of conjunctivitis, commonly known as Pink Eye in past 24 hours, local media reported on Monday.
The provincial capital is currently facing with a significant rise in cases of Pink Eye during the ongoing rainy season.
People infected with the disease are finding it difficult to go outdoors due to the negative effects of sunlight and dust on their eyes.
Noted Eye Surgeon, Dr. Intzar Hussain Butt, in his recommendations shared with the official media asked infected individuals to use prescribed eye drops, cold water, and tissues for eye cleaning.
Conjunctivitis an inflammation of transparent membrane
Dr. Butt explained that conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the transparent membrane, known as the conjunctiva, that lines the eyelid.
He stressed the importance of avoiding physical contact with infected persons and refraining from sharing personal belongings such as handkerchiefs, pillows, and makeup.
He also asked those affected to wear sunglasses and take a leave from their duties for a few days. He said that the infected persons should avoid self-medication and stay home. He recommended frequent handwashing with soap.

The doctor said redness, a gritty or scratchy sensation in the eye, and itching are the Symptoms of Pink infection.
Dr. Butt further added that many individuals with conjunctivitis experience eye discharge, leading to the formation of crusts on the eyelashes, especially at night.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Health Department has reported over 85 cases in Lahore hospitals’ outpatient departments in the last 24 hours.
