SEOUL: As the leader of North Korea supervised the launch of his nation’s most powerful ballistic missile, Kim Jong Un was spotted with a shiny device: a foldable smartphone, AFP reported on Thursday.

A foldable smartphone lay on the table of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un when he was guiding the launch of the newest and most powerful ballistic missile this week, AFP reported on Thursday.
AFP reported that the photos released by the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper showed a foldable handset, amazingly similar to China’s Huawei Pocket S phones or Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip devices.
The photo unleashed rumors regarding where the device came from. South Korean media reported that if the device in the image is a smartphone, it is likely that it was smuggled to North Korea through China.
North Korea is banned as per the Unite Nations sanctions from exporting or importing electronic devices.
Kim Jong Un ‘s love for appliances has been an object of outside interest in the past.
Kim has been pictured using what appeared to be Apple products, including Macbooks and iPads.
According to AFP, about 19 percent of North Koreans are estimated to have access to mobile phones.
