ISLAMABAD: Several social media posts have circulated a picture purporting to depict the former director of intelligence and currently Core Commander Bahawalpur Lt General Faiz Hameed briefing politician Imran Khan during his visit to Pakistan’s northern state but that assertion is fake.
Claim
On October 8, 2022, a picture appeared on Twitter, leading Twitter users to speculate that Imran Khan, the former prime minister, was being briefed by Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, about the flood-affected areas while Imran was visiting Dera Ismail Khan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
This picture was shared heavily on social media due to similar facial features of General Faiz, and on Twitter, this picture received hundreds of likes and retweets. Later, tweets from several of the accounts were removed.
Fact
Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed is not the man in the picture. He is Muhammad Ali Gulfaraz, managing director and chief executive officer of the Bank of Khyber, situated in Peshawar.
The official account of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf shared videos of Imran Khan’s visit to the Bank on October 8. Mr. Gulfaraz can be seen in the footage talking to the former prime minister.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health and finance minister tweeted further photos of Khan’s visit to Dera Ismail Khan, showing Mr. Gulfaraz in attendance.
So, on his tour of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, former premier was accompanied by managing director of Bank of Khyber based in Peshawar. There is a resemblance between General Faiz and Mr Gulfraz and the person with Imran khan on viral picture is Mr Muhammad Ali Gulfraz.
