Philippines Chairs ASEAN Committee Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI) convened  a meeting on Tuesday with Philippines taking over from Malaysia as Chair of the ACI.

The revolving chairmanship of the ACI is held  once every six months by Head Of Post (HOP) of ASEAN member country before being handed over to another HOP of a resident ASEAN member country in Islamabad.

H.E. Amb. Maria Agnes M. Cervantes of the Embassy of the Philippines chaired and hosted the event, which was attended by H.E. Mohammad Azaher Mazlan of the High Commission of Malaysia (immediate former Chairperson); H.E. Amb. Nguyen Tien Phong of the Embassy of Viet Nam; H.E. Amb. Chakkrid Kraichaiwong of the Embassy of Thailand; H.E. Col. (Ret.) Pengiran Haji Kamal Bashah bin Pangiran Haji Ahmad of the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam; Mr. Aung Kyaw Thuya, Charge d’ Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy of Myanmar; and Mr. Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma, Charge d’ Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.

Respective members of the technical committee for each embassy/high commission were also present.

Seven of the ten member ASEAN – Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam, compose the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI).
