Petrol Station Fire Kills 12 in Russia

MOSCOW:  At least 12 people have been killed and scores other injured in a fire at a gas station in Russia’s Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, western media reported on Monday.

According to the emergency situations ministry, more than 60 people were injured in the fire in Makhachkala, and 12 of them died, AFP reported.

The ministry in a statement on social media said Makhachkala, is located on the Caspian Sea, is the capital of Dagestan.

Russian media quoting an eye witness said the fire started after a huge explosion in an area where cars were parked and spread to the petrol station.

The unnamed witness further said that after the explosion, everyone fell on the ground and no one could see due to the smoke.

The fire spread over an area of around 600 square meters, the ministry said, adding that 260 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire.
