ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s caretaker government has taken a people-friendly decision and reduced the price of petrol by Rs 8 per litre, a notification issued Monday midnight said.

The new price of the petrol is 259.34 rupees while the price for the High-Speed Diesel (HSD) remained unchanged for the next fortnight, a statement of the Ministry of Finance said.

It is pertinent to mention here that on December 1, the government maintained the petroleum prices for the next fortnight till January 15, 2024.

It is worth mentioning that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), in its annual report on the past fiscal year, predicted that the inflation rate would ease to 20-22% in the financial year 2023-24, as the country heads to the February 8 general elections.
