PESHAWAR: Peshawar Zalmi narrowly defeated Legends XI by six runs in an exciting flood relief exhibition match at the Peshawar Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Batting first, Zalmi posted a modest total of 144, being bowled out in just 14.4 overs. Despite a solid start from openers Babar Azam (41 off 23) and Yasir Hameed (35 off 18), Zalmi’s middle and lower order collapsed under pressure. Shahid Afridi and Abdur Rehman played key roles, taking three wickets each, while Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez supported with two wickets each. Afridi’s final burst ripped through Zalmi’s lower order, leaving them struggling at 144 all out.
In response, Legends XI faced an uphill battle as they lost early wickets, slipping to 6-3 within three overs. Azhar Ali (9) and Humayun Farhat (27 off 15) tried to steady the ship, but the Legends were soon reduced to 5 down by the seventh over. Inzamam-ul-Haq led the fightback with a superb 46 not out off 23 balls, while Azhar Mahmood supported him with a quick 34 off 14. Despite their efforts, Legends fell short of the target, finishing on 138-6, just six runs behind.
