GENEVA: Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi delivered a strong statement at the 55th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, highlighting Pakistan’s grave concerns regarding ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Qazi condemned India’s colonial project in IIOJK, emphasizing that it flagrantly violates the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions, and international law. He underscored India’s systematic efforts towards political and demographic engineering in the occupied territory, facilitated by an excessive military presence and oppressive laws.
Of particular concern to Pakistan is the plight of Kashmiri women and children, who endure multiple layers of discrimination, abuse, and violence under Indian occupation. Qazi’s address shed light on the harrowing realities faced by these vulnerable segments of society.
In his call to action, Ambassador Qazi urged the Human Rights Council to maintain vigilance over the situation in IIOJK and to produce a third Kashmir report as part of its preventive mandate. This request reflects Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring accountability for human rights abuses and advocating for the rights of the oppressed Kashmiri population.
Qazi’s remarks at the Human Rights Council serve as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for international attention and action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in IIOJK. By amplifying Pakistan’s concerns on this global platform, he has contributed to the collective effort to uphold human rights and justice in the region.
