ISLAMABAD: A large number of people are visiting the Landa markets of the city for purchasing second-hand garments as winter looms.

The Landa market established in the H-9 Sunday Bazaar and other areas of the city including Aabpara continue to attract people with humble backgrounds. Every year in winter, thousands of people visit these markets to purchase items especially clothes and shoes. Despite a significant increase in prices of second-hand items, people still prefer them due to quality and affordability.

Inflation and poverty were forcing more and more people to opt for used clothes as purchasing power does not allow the middle class to purchase new items.

During a visit to the city points, it was observed that people mostly buy second-hand shoes, jackets, sweaters, and other clothes to keep themselves warm during winter. Shoppers, majority of them females, can be seen buying woolies for their minors to protect them from severe cold. During night time, temperatures dip considerably and may lead to various ailments among children if not properly covered.

As the weather is changing, consignments of warm clothes have started arriving in the city markets in large quantities. Given the inflation and high living price, the myth that only poor and middle class go to these markets no longer exists.

The prices of second-hand items at landa bazaars even have witnessed an increase, still the available commodities were relatively inexpensive.
