Peaceful Solution to Kashmir Problem OIC Foremost Priority: Secretary General

MIRPUR: Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hussain Ibrahim Taha said on Monday that a peaceful solution to the Kashmir problem was the foremost priority of the Muslim body.

The secretary-general held a meeting with Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Illyas. Both leaders discussed matters of mutual interest the gross human rights abuse by Indian forces in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He said that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation wanted to reach a final conclusion with cooperation with friendly countries. The body was keen to open discussion channels between the stakeholders in the Kashmir problem to issue it through peaceful means and diplomacy.

The Secretary General said that without the peaceful solution to the Kashmir problem according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people, peace in the region will remain a distant hope.

OIC to convey voice of Kashmiris to international community

He said that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will convey the voice of Kashmiris to the Muslim world and international community. The world needed to be told about the serious human rights violations in IIOJK.

“As a representative of the Muslim countries, it is the responsibility of OIC to highlight the Kashmir problem and solve it. A documentary on Kashmir will also be shown to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary General and his delegation to show them the Indian atrocities in the valley”, he said.

On the occasion, AJK PM Sardar Tanveer urged Muslim countries to join hands and raise a collective voice for Kashmiris to get them their legitimate right to self-determination.

He said that OIC has always helped the Kashmiri people at every stage of history and supported its freedom struggle against India. – APP
