LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to relocate its ICC-approved biomechanics lab back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen player development and performance analysis infrastructure.

The PCB has invited tenders for the renovation and refurbishment of the long-delayed building at the NCA, which will once again house the biomechanics lab. The project, initially launched eight years ago, had faced multiple setbacks and remained incomplete, prompting the board to establish the facility temporarily at a local university.

Following his appointment as Director of High Performance, former Test pacer Aaqib Javed has taken the lead in reviving the project. He emphasized the importance of bringing all high-performance resources under one roof to streamline training and analysis.

“Just like in the past, we will bring development back into the academies. We are setting up a biomechanics lab in the academy and upgrading all facilities,” Aaqib said earlier this year, adding that the new setup will feature modern training equipment and software to enhance player performance.

The ICC-approved biomechanics lab plays a vital role in monitoring and improving bowlers’ actions, ensuring compliance with international regulations. Once fully operational at the NCA, the facility will enable in-depth biomechanical analysis, corrective training, and performance enhancement within the same complex.

The relocation marks a significant step in the PCB’s broader plan to centralise and upgrade its high-performance and development programmes, aligning Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure with global standards.
