LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday announced the adoption of its previous practice of awarding one-year central contracts to national team players, contingent on their performance.

This decision, among others, was made during a board meeting following criticism of the team’s performance at the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup.

The board decided not to reduce players’ salaries despite the disappointing tournament exit before the Super 8 stage. Monthly salaries, determined by performance and category, remain unchanged for Category A players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, who receive Rs4.5 million.

Category B players, including Shadab Khan and Fakhar Zaman, earn Rs3 million monthly. Category C and D players, such as Imad Wasim and Hasan Ali, receive between Rs750,000 to Rs1.5 million per month.

Fitness assessments will occur every three months, with mandatory participation in domestic cricket.

Non-objection certificates (NOCs) for playing in foreign leagues will follow new guidelines based on players meeting specific criteria.

Zero-Tolerance on Discipline

The PCB emphasized a stringent approach to discipline, expressing zero tolerance for misconduct and player grouping. The chairman warned of severe consequences for indiscipline and emphasized the importance of team unity and adherence to board regulations.

These decisions mark a shift from the previous three-year central contracts introduced last year, reflecting ongoing efforts to align player incentives with performance benchmarks and maintain team discipline.
