ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced the postponement of the remaining eight fixtures of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.
In an official statement, the PCB said, “Over the past 24 hours, the situation along the Line of Control has deteriorated, with 78 drone incursions and the firing of surface-to-surface missiles from India.”
The decision to defer the matches was taken following guidance from Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
“The irresponsible aggression displayed by India has reached a level where national focus is rightly directed towards the valiant efforts of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, who are steadfastly safeguarding our country’s sovereignty,” the statement added.
Expressing solidarity
The PCB expressed full solidarity with the families of the martyrs and with the security forces who are defending the nation with bravery and honour.
The Board also acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of its partners, team franchises, players, broadcasters, sponsors, and organisers, who have played a pivotal role in the smooth progression of the tournament up to this point.
“While cricket remains a unifying force and a source of national pride, it must respectfully pause when the country is confronted with such blatant hostility,” the statement read.
The PCB further emphasised its concern for the mental well-being of players, particularly foreign cricketers, and noted that it fully understands the concerns of their families wishing for their safe return home.
