LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has hailed former Pakistan Women’s team captain Sana Mir on becoming the first female cricketer from Pakistan to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

“Well done, Sana Mir- a daughter of Pakistan who has brought pride to the nation,” Naqvi said in his congratulatory message on Tuesday.

He said that Sana Mir has raised the national flag high and brought glory to Pakistan. He described her as a national asset and a role model for women cricketers. “Sana Mir’s induction into the Hall of Fame marks a historic milestone in the history of Pakistan women’s cricket. She dreamt big, worked hard, and made history. Her achievement is a source of immense pride for the entire nation,” he added.

He said Sana Mir’s achievement serves as an inspiration to every daughter of the nation. Through her unwavering dedication, perseverance, and tireless hard work, she has earned this honour and brought global recognition to Pakistan.

Her success is not hers alone—it is a victory for women’s cricket in Pakistan and for the country as a whole. Today, Sana Mir has been celebrated, and, God willing, the day is not far when many more Pakistani women cricketers will receive similar recognition, he stated.

Sana has played 226 international matches since her 2005 debut. She is one of only nine women cricketers to have taken 100 wickets and scored 1,000 runs in ODI matches.

During her eight-year tenure as captain, Mir led Pakistan to two Asian Games gold medals in 2010 and 2014 and steered the national team through five T20 World Cups and two ODI World Cups.

“From dreaming as a little girl that one day there would even be a women’s team in our country to now standing here, inducted among the very legends I idolised long before I ever held a bat or a ball – this is a moment I couldn’t have dared to imagine,” she said.

“I am incredibly grateful for this honour and hope to give back to the sport in any way I can. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my teammates, coaches, and family for all their support over the years,” she said.
