KARACHI: Pakistan’s former star batter Haroon Rasheed has been named as the chief selector of the national selection committee of Pakistan cricket.
Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi told reporters in Lahore on Monday that Haroon Rasheed will be heading the new national selection committee, and the remaining members would be appointed later.
On December 22, Haroon Rasheed was also named on the 14-member cricket management committee to run the PCB by the patron-in-chief of the PCB, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
“Haroon Rasheed has now resigned from the management committee as we do not want a conflict of interest as he is now chief selector of the national selection committee,” Najam Sethi said.
Haroon Rasheed’s cricket career
Haroon Rasheed, who played 23 Tests and 12 ODIs for Pakistan retired as Director of the High-Performance Centre of the cricket board last year.
He has held several other positions on the cricket board, including manager of senior and junior teams, chief selector, and also head coach of junior and senior teams.
The cricket management committee had named former all-rounder Shahid Afridi as interim chief selector of the national selection committee soon after coming into power, and Najam Sethi had wanted him to continue on a long-term basis; however, Afridi refused, insisting he had a lot of commitments with his charity foundation and charity work.
Najam Sethi also made it clear that talks with Mickey Arthur were still going on, and in the coming two or three days, a final announcement would be made on the new head coach of the Pakistan cricket team.
