MULTAN, Pakistan: The Immigration Branch of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested a passenger and his facilitator at the Multan International Airport who were trying to smuggle 16 kg of gold to the UAE.
Khawaja Hammad, Deputy Director General of FIA, told this news agency that 16 kg of gold bricks were found in the luggage of passenger Mohammad Tanveer, who was leaving for Dubai on Friday morning on FZ304 FlyDubai flight from the airport.
He stated that there was no money in the passengers’ luggage when they arrived at the airport, and added in the investigation, it was found that a Civil Aviation Head of Staff, Saeed, helped the accused to hand over the money after entering the airport.
Responding to a question from the FIA officials, Tanveer said that he is not satisfied with his business and his travel history shows that he has flown to Dubai about 80 times in a short span of time after a short stay of 3-4 days.
Hammad claimed that the passenger had hidden a gold brick weighing 3-4 kg in a secret pocket in his luggage.
Tanveer and host Saeed were arrested by FIA and an FIR was registered against them. Deputy Director said they are kept in FIA Multan Circle cell room. In response to another question, he said the accused has been smuggling gold for a long time and has caused a hefty loss to the national exchequer. —APP
