ISLAMABAD: Qaisra Elahi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi, has approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the Lahore High Court’s decision to dispose of the former chief minister’s plea seeking his release following his re-arrest.
According to media reports, she not only seeks the immediate release of Parvez Elahi but also requests the apex court to direct the authorities concerned not to arrest her husband in the future.
Previously, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had dismissed Pervez Elahi’s application seeking its order for his release, citing ineffectiveness, which has led to this appeal to the highest judicial authority in the country.
The petitioner, Qaisra Elahi, has urged the apex court to issue orders to prevent any potential future arrests of Parvez Elahi, even in cases unknown to them. Furthermore, her plea calls for directives to produce Parvez Elahi before the court.
Parvez Elahi Re-arrested
Just a few days ago, Parvez Elahi was re-arrested despite previous orders for his release. The LHC’s failure to scrutinize the circumstances surrounding his arrest has added to the legal complexity of the situation.
In her application, she has named the caretaker Punjab government, the home secretary of Punjab, and the Inspector General of Police Punjab as respondents in the case.
