ISLAMABAD: A Senate panel is advocating for an overhaul of the education system in underdeveloped areas in order to help the aspirants compete in the Central Superior Services (CSS) exams, which are required for civil service positions.

The Senate Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat was updated on the upcoming Special CSS exams for 2023, as well as the need to remodel education in less-developed areas for successful applicants at the parliamnt house.

High failure rate in CSS exams

Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmad, Chairman of the Committee, expressed concern about the high failure rate of competitive examinations, particularly among rural applicants.

According to the establishment division, there are presently 52 unfilled positions in Punjab for non-Muslim candidates. It was suggested that the concession of 32-year age relaxation and an additional chance in this year’s special CSS exams could have a major impact in terms of success.

The committee’s call to action emphasises the importance of addressing educational disparities in order to provide equal opportunities for all civil service candidates.

Applicants from the minority quota in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, women and minorities from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and all applicants from Sindh, Balochistan, and the former federally-administered tribal areas (FATA) were all eligible to apply for the special CSS exams, according to the briefing.

The special CSS exams allow for two application phases. The first phase ran from December 18, 2022, to January 4, 2023, and the second from February 26 to March 14, this year. A total of 44,238 applications had been received as of March 8.

Coaching will be provided for mandatory subjects, and candidates who pass a preliminary test with multiple-choice questions will be interviewed from June to August. Under their respective quotas, four candidates will be chosen for each existing vacancy. The matter was, however, postponed for further discussion on practical implementation and monitoring.
