ISLAMABAD: The joint session of the parliament on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their struggle for the right to self-determination.

According to the resolution tabled by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, on behalf of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, February 5 is annually observed as ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ as the Jammu and Kashmir issue remains one of the oldest unresolved international disputes on the United Nations (UN) as several UN Security Council resolutions had been adopted for its peaceful resolution.

The joint session reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support for the Kashmir cause. It paid rich tributes to the bravery, courage, and sacrifices of the people of held Kashmir.

It lauded the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir for their continued political support to their Kashmiri brothers and sisters living across the line of control. It rejected unilateral and illegal actions of India since August 5, 2019.

Parliament expresses concern over Indian actions

The parliament expressed serious concern over attempts to introduce demographic changes in occupied Kashmir, inter-alia, through the issuance of domicile certificates to outsiders; the addition of temporary residents to lists of voters, allowing the purchase of land by non-Kashmiris; and fresh delimitation of electoral constituencies.

The parliament emphasized that any political process held under foreign occupation could not be an alternative for the exercise of the right to self-determination by the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as provided in the relevant UNSC resolutions.

It expressed grave concerns at the presence of more than 900,000 Indian forces that had turned the IIOJK into one of the world’s most militarized regions.
