ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Punjab local body elections did not take place despite the court order, and even after the passage of 90 days, the date for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) election was not decided yet.

He was addressing the National Assembly on Wednesday.  The Minister termed as “shocking” the SC’s latest decision, in which the court directed the State Bank of Pakistan to release funds for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and later take approval from the country’s parliament.

He claimed, “The parliament is being insulted due to a few people’s stubbornness. If the top judiciary has any misunderstanding about the Constitution, the PPP and the parliamentary committee are ready to assist it understand.”

Bilawal Bhutto questioned how the top court could order that the parliament be ignored. He said, “despite judges ‘thoughts’, we respect them,”.

He said that the apex court did not have the power to amend the constitution of the country. “How can the court issues an order that the parliament’s decision be ignored and the decision of a minority bench be accepted?” Bilawal Bhutto questioned.

He said, “We are not ready to accept the court’s verdict if it orders the parliament should be ignored.”

The minister claimed that the “top court’s decision had insulted the country’s parliament and the matter should also be raised in the Privileges Committee”.
