PARIS: Google illuminated the digital sky with an animated Doodle celebrating the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Friday.
This year, the City of Light blends innovation and tradition, as the grand opening ceremony takes place along the historic Seine rather than in a stadium.
The Doodle features animated athlete characters merrily drifting down the Seine, capturing the moment with a delightful dance of colors and motion, echoing the spirit of unity and excitement that defines the Olympic Games. Clicking on the Google Doodle directs you to the latest updates on the Games.
While the competition began two days prior, the highlight of the day will be a grand parade of athletes from over 200 countries, followed by the iconic lighting of the Olympic cauldron. Paris welcomes athletes to compete in 329 events across thirty-two sports disciplines, marking the 33rd edition of the Olympics. This year’s Games introduce four new sports: breaking, skateboarding, surfing, and sports climbing, alongside the 28 traditional Olympic sports.
The Indian squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics is a formidable force, featuring 117 athletes — 70 men and 47 women — competing in 69 events across 16 sports disciplines. They aim to bring home up to 95 medals, with five Olympic medalists among them: Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, P V Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, and the men’s hockey team.
