ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, informed the Senate on Friday that Pakistan will facilitate Palestinian medical students to complete their medical studies in Pakistani colleges.

Addressing the Upper House of Parliament, the senator said that UK-based groups had approached him urging Pakistan to assist final-year Palestinian medical students who were unable to finish their education due to the devastation in Gaza.

Responding to these requests, Senator Dar communicated with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to explore options for accommodating these students.

The PMDC, in response to his initiative, agreed to integrate Palestinian medical students into Pakistani medical colleges under its administrative oversight.

Senator Dar emphasized that this initiative would enable Palestinian students to complete their medical education in Pakistan through staggered admissions of 20 to 30 batches.

Regarding Pakistan’s stance on Gaza, Senator Dar reiterated the government’s unequivocal support for Palestine. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts in international forums, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Gambia and the D-8 meeting in Istanbul, where Pakistan vehemently condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and advocated for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Pakistan has also supported the cause of unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza, having dispatched nine aid consignments thus far.

Furthermore, Pakistan has called for the prosecution of Israel for war crimes in the International Court of Justice, condemning the widespread suffering and loss of life among innocent Palestinians. Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Gaza during his recent visit to Astana, condemning Israel’s actions as war crimes against humanity.
