RAMALLAH: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas strongly affirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-defense in the face of ongoing Israeli attacks.
Speaking about the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ initiated by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, from the besieged Gaza Strip into Israel, Abbas convened a meeting with senior civilian and security officials in Ramallah to address the unfolding developments related to the operation.
“Ensuring all necessary resources for the resilience of the Palestinian people against the atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation and settler groups is our priority,” President Abbas stated during the meeting, emphasizing the inherent right to self-defense for Palestinians amidst the terror inflicted by the occupation forces and settlers.
Abbas further announced plans to chair a meeting of the Palestinian Authority leadership today to discuss the evolving situation and chart a collective response.
Hamas’s Offensive Against Israel
Earlier, the Kassam Brigades launched the “Al-Aqsa Flood” against Israel, prompting Israel to declare a comprehensive operation. The Gaza Strip witnessed a barrage of rockets fired towards Israel, accompanied by armed groups infiltrating settlements in the region.
According to the Israeli emergency service, the Red Star of David, approximately 800 Israelis were injured, and 100 Israelis were killed in the attacks originating from the Gaza Strip.
In parallel, official reports from the Palestinian agency WAFA indicated that 198 Palestinians were martyred, and 1610 others sustained injuries in Israeli military air strikes on Gaza Strip.
